Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 stars Peter Parker and Miles Morales, facing off against three iconic Spider-Man villains. The first is Kraven the Hunter (Sergey Kravenoff), who arrives to New York alongside his gang to hunt who he perceives to be a worthy opponent. Said prey is the Lizard (Dr. Curt Connors), the second villain of the game, who Peter and Miles have to save from Kraven’s hunters. The pair does not work together as well as they used to, as Miles notices his older colleague gradually change. Previously compassionate, kind and fair Peter Parker has become aggressive, ruthless, even bloodthirsty.

I break down what I believe to be the game’s five biggest strengths and five biggest weaknesses. The unbelievable power of the symbionts forces Peter and Miles, both with and without a mask of the ultimate test, their everyday life, their friendships and their duty to other people.

While the game left some stories open for more down the road, Insomniac Games has addressed whether Spider-Man 2 will get any story DLC. The final trailer shows more of Venom and a newly revealed villain in the form of Sandman. It also shows more of the Venom in the symbiote form and how it affects Peter mentally with the black suit, as well as how Venom becomes his own humanoid form by latching onto one of the characters. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s gameplay and its previous iterations, similarly plays like the Arkham series, Assassin’s Creed series, and even Ghost of Tsushima.

However, the game’s open-world formula, with occasional pacing issues, feels a bit repetitive to some. The integration of Peter Parker and Miles Morales adds depth to the experience, making it a must-play for superhero fans despite minor shortcomings. The previous games were highly adored for accurate web swinging for traversal, and now with the addition of the Web Wings, exploration should be a lot more unique and even quicker without the need to swing all the time. Furthermore, both characters have distinct abilities, so it feels fresh to switch them up. Peter Parker’s symbiote black suit gives him unique abilities, while Miles places focus on his bio-electric skills. This makes the gameplay extensive, with higher replayability chances.

The Spider-Bot will be on this building, near the very top of the Western wall. Locate the main road in the North-East of the district that runs North to South. Check along this road for a tall building with a black tip, and a roof that slopes downwards towards the South. The Prowler Stash on the Braxton tower will be just to the East of it. Near where the train tracks stop (on the map screen, at least), look for a building under construction with a yellow crane over it.

There are 14 unique districts, each with its own set of objectives to complete before you can unlock fast travel to that part of the map. Gliding is especially great for crossing long distances thanks to the numerous wind tunnels that carve their way through New York’s seemingly endless grid of streets flanked by art deco architecture and modern mirror-like skyscrapers. The main story took me around 18 hours to complete before I hit 100%, and the subsequent platinum trophy popped up to congratulate my efforts after 27 in total. Despite whatever loftier ambitions the story may have, this is still unapologetically an old-school approach to open-world game design, and nowhere is this displayed more clearly than in its optional quests. Spider-Man 2, and to an extent all great Spider-Man stories, tackle themes of adolescence and puberty – a time of uncertainty for even the most normal of teenagers trying to control bodily fluids.

Every fragment pieces Marko’s humanity back together, with sound clips illustrating the pain he’s endured over the years. God of War Ragnarok made a near-perfect transition to PC, as did Ghost of Tsushima. Unfortunately, there have also been some PlayStation PC ports that have missed the mark, like The Last of Us Part 1. The Last of Us Part 1 had all kinds of technical problems when it first launched for PC, and now Spider-Man 2 has followed in its footsteps.

For players with high-performance PCs, High, Very High, and Ultimate Ray Tracing options are available to more finely tune their experience. With these settings, players can use higher-quality raytracing meshes and use the raytracing object range slider to make adjustments. The PC version of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was released through Steam and Epic Games Store.

And while the predecessor had a good bunch to contend with, the sequel adds even more villains to the mix. Easily jumping off the screen, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 allows players to take control of both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, freely switching between the two on the fly. More is definitely more in this case, as players follow individual storylines and take side missions, some exclusive to each character. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, recently released in 2023, is the official action-adventure sequel to 2018’s Spider-Man entry. Insomniac and Sony Interactive Entertainment continue to collaborate on the franchise, releasing the sequel on PS5 platforms. Like 789win and film adaptations, Spider-Man takes on the responsibility of protecting New York City from the bad guys.

At the same time, he’s struggling to balance his chaotic personal life and career while the fate of millions of New Yorkers rest upon his shoulders. It’s currently unclear if Spider-Man 2 will be verified on Steam Deck at launch. However, most of Sony’s other big, single player outings are verified for Steam Deck, most notably the other two Spider-Man games from Insomniac — the original and Miles Morales.
