In 2024, IGN didn’t give out a single 9 or 10 between densus toto the end of June and beginning of September, which helps explain why it felt a bit barren for games on the whole. Nevertheless, the year began with a literal deluge of great games before the noticeable summer pause. Every year we go through our archive of reviews to look back at the highest reviewed games at IGN. This year, 27 games received a score of 9 or 10, and of that only one new game received a 10 (the other 10 was given to a re-review of a very popular game). This is a marked downturn from 2023 where 36 games received our highest review scores, including five games that received a 10.
Developing and expanding on all that was great about Horizon Zero Dawn on PS4, Aloy’s next adventure is staggeringly beautiful, gripping, and filled with exciting rob-dinosaur action. Many RPG games claim to offer a spectrum of choice, but that usually boils down to doing a “good thing” or a “bad thing”. Washed-up cop simulator Disco Elysium doesn’t make things so simple. Amnesiac from drug and alcohol abuse, your cop explores all the shades of gray in between what constitutes a pure or dark morality in his quest to solve the murder of a hanged man.
More action-focused than its predecessor, this sequel is visibly closer to the classic Resident Evil 4 in its moment-to-moment gameplay – but blends this with the survival horror elements that we love about older entries. Factor in a slew of quality-of-life improvements, a roster of memorable characters, a well-paced, gripping story, and superb utilization of in-game audio, and Resident Evil Village is a fantastic horror game. We think it’s definitely one of the best examples of how PS5 3D audio can enhance your gaming experience. There are also 40 playable characters, including Sonic the Hedgehog, with unique stats and abilities to experience in the Skill Battle mode. The world, story, and gameplay of Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S is bright, charming, and colourful. Honestly, it’s one of the best feel-good games on our list for sure.
Helmed by creator/writer/director Hwang Dong-hyuk, the thriller follows Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), who won the games in Season 1, and then came back to them in Season 2 with the hopes of infiltrating them from the inside out and dismantling them forever. [newline]Upon returning to the game island, Gi-hun naively assumed he had the upper hand. Yet, by the end of the second season, the former gambling addict realized that in these particular tournaments, the house always wins. The final season is still deeply disturbing and ultraviolent, but it’s much more of a continuation of the second season than a distinct entity. Still, Season 3 puts a bow on this chapter of the phenomenon while paving the way for a new, Westernized beginning. It’s got a lot of what I like to call Euro-jank in both the story presentation and the game play.
Death Stranding Surges Back To Relevance As Sequel Builds Massive Momentum
My shopping list includes organics to feed us and the ship, minerals and metals to craft supplies, materials to fund my research, and rapidium to create more alters. It’s a dramatic and gripping start to the game, and it’s a high that never lapses. The Alters is more story-focused than 11 Bit’s previous work, but the fight for survival is just as fierce. Why you can trust GamesRadar+
In season 2, Gi-Hun was front and centre of the group, ardently trying to get his point across. It’s testament to star Lee Jung-jae’s acting brilliance that he’s able to hold so much tension without saying much. PPT2S and SXSG are lots of fun, though I wish the AI were less sensitive (i.e. aggressive) whenever I play Tetris/Puyo Puyo well (even with auto difficulty disabled). Few to no complaints about SXSG, barring the usual trial-and-error that comes with navigating levels at high speed. 60 hours back into replaying BOTW (which i already had 200 hours in back in the day).
The combination of a gripping and emotional narrative with God of War’s signature crunching combat is a thing to behold in Ragnarok – it means that every turn you’re in for an epic encounter or a brilliant bit of story; the mixing of the two makes this a true epic. If you’re looking for an absolutely gorgeous world to lose yourself in, or if you just want to dig into an excellent new combat system, then FF7 Rebirth is easily on of the best PS5 games you can pick up right now. Astro’s Playroom is the best pack-in game since Wii Sports, as it perfectly showcases what Sony’s new system can do.
The Alters begins with the cinematic drama and thrill of a sci-fi blockbuster movie. Jan Dolski has crash-landed on a hostile planet to find that the rest of the crew have all died in the landing process. After scrambling past lava rivers, radiation spots, and rocky terrain, he arrives at the mission base – a giant wheel-shaped ship. Jan soon realizes that unless he gets the base moving, the entire station will be engulfed in an intense radiation wave emitted from the sun, and he’ll be fried to a crisp. He can’t pilot the ship without a crew; there’s just too much to do for just one person.

Decisions culminate in fun ways, especially towards the end where sidequests and the critical path cleverly intersect. Nevertheless, it all builds towards a climax that, while satisfying, loses some of the ambiguity that seems to define the series. When I’m not in conversation with someone, that someone forgets that I’m there. Nothing happens in this world unless I’m invited to make it happen or I’m bearing witness to it.
